Elia presented his poster “Self-supervised 3D masked autoencoder for MRI-based spatially resolved maps of Glioblastoma” at the EANO 2026 meeting of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology, bringing our work to the neuro-oncology community.

In the afternoon session Tommaso presented “Representation learning of joint genomic and epigenomic status from Nanopore sequencing data with a novel data pipeline”, followed by Elia with “3D Patch-Wise Self-Supervised Representation Learning for Glioblastoma Spatial Heterogeneity”.
At CIBB 2026, the International Conference on Computational Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, Tommaso showcased his work “Representation learning of joint genomic and epigenomic status from Nanopore sequencing data with a novel data pipeline” during the poster session.
miXer, a new tool for CNV identification that we are developing, has been presented at European Human Genetics Conference (ESHG 2026) as poster “Accurate detection of clinical Copy Number Variants in exomes with X chromosome reader-based Machine Learning”, in collaboration with Tommaso Pippucci (Sant’Orsola Bologna) and Paola Dimartino (UniPV).
Elia joined the BITS 2026 annual meeting of the Bioinformatics Italian Society, where he held a talk titled “MRI-based intratumoral heterogeneity mapping in Glioblastoma via self-supervised 3D Masked Autoencoder”.

Valeria presented the work entitled “Identification of CRC sub-types by multi-omic data integration” during the International conference on Quantum Artificial Intelligence in Naples.
Our lab took part in Bioinformatiha 12, the Tuscan Day of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology held at the Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza, with two oral presentations. Danilo talked about “Extending tumor-only RNA neoantigens identification in Merkel Cell Carcinoma”, while Valeria presented “Quantum Kernels for Breast Cancer Stratification: Exploring Expressivity on Real-World Multi-Omics Data”.
We are delighted to celebrate Elia’s successful completion of his PhD—an important milestone marking years of dedication and achievement. We are even more pleased that he will continue working with us, bringing his expertise, and collaborative spirit to new projects. Congratulations, Elia!
Congrats for the first two Phd graduates of the CTGlab, as Giulia and Maurizio successfully defended their thesis in the ‘Genetics, Oncology and Clinical Medicine’ program and got an Excellent mark. We wish them the best and a wonderful career.
We’re happy to share that Danilo took part in the Snakemake Hackathon event at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland. It was a productive week for him and our lab, and we appreciate this valuable experience.

At the 11th edition of the Bioinformatiha conference in Florence, Barbara shared insights from her ongoing project on the integration of MRI and transcriptomics in Glioblastoma, while Giulia presented her work on the characterization of rare variants in breast cancer.
We were pleased to annouce the participation of Romina in the Genetics of Ocular Development (GoOD) Meeting held at New College, Oxford, UK. Romina presented her work on ‘Charting mutations in noncoding DNA elements as a possible cause of inherited eye disease.’
It was a pleasure to present ReViewCNV, our new ShinyApp for the visualization and clinical interpretation of germinal CNVs, at the BiotechX Europe 2024 conference. We got some good comments and feedbacks and are already working at a new version of the app!
Maurizio and Danilo attended to the General Meeting of the Human Cell Atlas in Milan, focused on the latest development in the single-cell and spatial transcriptomics field. Many amazing scientists and keynotes, with a growing interests in the development of computational and artificial intelligence models.

Romina and Maurizio attended the Human Genome Meeting in April 2024, organized by HUGO. The event was highly interesting and inspiring, as it brought together geneticists, clinicians, and researchers from around the world, creating a multidisciplinary environment where we could discuss and exchange ideas, enhancing our scientific network and knowledge.
It was a pleasure to meet today at the CNR Research Area in Pisa Dr. Toshiyasu ICHIOKA, Director of the RIKEN Europe Office. The meeting was part of an official visit of Riken at the main CNR research areas in Italy. In Pisa Dr. Ichioka met five CNR institutes, including IITCNR. It was an interesting opportunity to present him some of our cutting-edge research activities and exchange ideas for potential collaborations between Riken and CNR.
A new innovative project with funding from Advanced Robotics and enabling digital TEchnologies & Systems (ARTES) 4.0, SI-BrAInomiX, officially commences in collaboration with Siena Imaging Srl, the University of Siena, and Toscana Life Sciences (TLS). This project aims to develop a tool for AI-based brain tumor diagnostics using multi-omics data.
